George Walker Bush served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 and was the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. The eldest son of Barbara and George H. W. Bush he was born in New Haven Connecticut. After graduating from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975 he worked in oil businesses. He later co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team before defeating Ann Richards in the 1994 Texas gubernatorial election. He was elected President in 2000. During his first term the country suffered the Al-Qaeda terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 2001 and went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush's opponents used footage of him on the tee box in 2002 making a statement about catching terrorists and then saying "Now watch this drive." Bush ultimately quit golf during his first term deciding he didn't want the families of those serving overseas to see him playing golf.

Offered here is Bushs custom Ben Hogan golf bag and full set of clubs he used while serving as the governor of Texas. The tri-color (red white and blue) leather golf bag stands 35 tall and has his full name George W. Bush embroidered in white on the front of the Hogan bag. The four woods included the driver 3 4 and 5 are all Ben Hogan Apex oil hardened clubs that show good usage. Each comes with its own individual velour head cover; the driver and 5 wood (blue); 3 wood (orange); and the 4 wood (black). The accompanying irons are all Ben Hogan branded Edge clubs with multi-color (black green and white) Swing Rite Golf Pride rubber grips. Each of the irons includes serial number YC3432 on the hosel. The bag includes a red white and blue umbrella with a Texas Rangers callout on one of the panels. Finally the Ben Hogan putter is a precision milled HT-II club that stands 35 tall. Four used golf balls two Titleist two Ultra are inside the bags front pocket.

According to the consignor Newport Sports Museum Founder and Curator John Hamilton he purchased the bag and set directly from Bushs personal chef in Dallas. I bought them from the chef right after Bush was elected President of the United States said Hamilton. I was introduced to the chef through a mutual friend. Bush had gifted them to the chef while he was serving as governor." Two letters are included with this lot - one from the chef and the other from the friend who introduced them and coordinated the sale.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
