The late Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States serving from 1974 to 1977. A standout football player during his days at the University of Michigan Ford played center for the Wolverines and helped the team win back-to-back national gridiron championships in 1932 and 33. During his senior season of 1934 he was even named MVP of the team. On Oct. 8 1994 in fact Michigan retired Fords jersey number 48 during halftime of the Wolverines' game against Michigan State. While it was widely reported through the media that President Ford was a bit clumsy note multiple Chevy Chase impersonations of Ford on Saturday Night Live he was indeed an accomplished athlete and as a golfer its been reported that he often shot in the 80s. Featured here is a complete golf bag and set that was specifically made for and used by President Ford in 1975 smack dab during his administration. The two-tone leather golf bag which stands 36 tall is sporting the Michigan Wolverines team colors of dark blue and yellow has also been prominently stamped on the front PRESIDENT Gerald R. Ford 1975 by the bags manufacturer Gorman Golf Inc. The set includes three specially engraved Sabat Top-Xick woods (1 3 and 8) that all read President Gerald R. Ford on the bottom just below the GOPs Republican elephant logo. The accompanying irons (3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and pitching wedge) are all similarly marked with the back of each club head sporting special President Gerald R. Ford 1975 engraving just to the left of the GOP Elephant logo. The included MacGregor sand wedge is also engraved with his name Gerald R. Ford and the Presidential seal emblem while the nondescript putter simply reads Gerald R. Ford in script across the top of the club head. According to the consignor former Newport Sports Museum Founder and Curator John Hamilton he acquired the set minus the putter at auction from a private party. The putter according to Hamilton was obtained at a later date from a personal friend of the late President: He was very close to Ford. He was actually one of his pallbearers. Hamilton believes these clubs were used by Ford most often out in the desert at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage California. The bag comes complete with four leather head covers and one blue hand towel monogrammed The White House.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
