Gene Tenace started the 1972 MLB season as Dave Duncans backup at catcher for the Oakland As. He finished it as not only the teams starting backstop but also as the unlikely here of the 72 Fall Classic. Squaring off against the National League Champion Cincinnati Reds Tenace led the As to victory in a fiercely fought seven-game series by hitting a series-best four home runs and knocking in nine runs. He was quickly named MVP of the 1972 World Series. Offered here is Tenaces autographed 1972 World Series Most Valuable Player award that he received from Sport Magazine. The overall wooden award plaque which measures 15 wide by 12.5 high is adorned with an engraved gold placard that reads: SPORT MAGAZINE 18th ANNUAL WORLD SERIES AWARD Presented to GENE TENACE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 1972. It includes a pair of gold eagles adhered to the wooden plaque on either side of the gold placard. Tenace has signed the award in black marker on the top left corner and added the inscription: 72 W.S. M.V.P. As a side note SCP Auctions sold Bret Saberhagen's 1985 World Series MVP award trophy presented by Sport Magazine for $37610 in our Spring 2013 Auction.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from Gene Tenace.
