Gary Player is a South African professional golfer widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the game. Over his career Player accumulated nine major championships on the regular tour and six Champions Tour major championship victories as well as three Senior British Open Championships on the European Senior Tour. At the age of 29 Player won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors which is known as the career Grand Slam. This lot features one of Players tournament-used 4 woods. The 42 long MacGregor Super Tourney Eye-0-Matic 4 wood shows ample use as the face of the club reflects plenty of contact marks and there are multiple scuffs and scrapes around the head. In fact this was the same 4 wood he used while winning the 1972 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. The two-tone (red and white) rubber grip includes a Classic GP logo. In a signed typed letter on his personalized letterhead that accompanied the donation dated June 17 1977 Player wrote: It is a pleasure to contribute my 4 Wood to the Boys Club of Royal Oak. It holds particularly good memories for me as I have used it for many years and in fact used it at the 1972 PGA Championship. My best wishes to the Club for continued success.

Includes original letter that Player sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a black-and-white 8" x 10" photo signed in blue ink showing him celebrating another successful putt.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
