Cary Middlecoff was an American professional golfer on the PGA Tour from 1947 to 1961. His 40 Tour wins place him tenth all-time and he won three major championships: 1955 Masters and 1949 and 56 U.S. Open. Middlecoff graduated as a dentist but gave up his practice at age 26 to become a full-time PGA Tour golfer. In all Middlecoff won 40 PGA Tour tournaments. During the decade of the 1950s he captured 28 tour titles more than any other player during that span. This lot features one of his tournament-used 3 woods. The non-descript (manufacturer unknown) 3 wood measures 43 long and shows plenty of use. Its two-tone (black and red) leather grip is severely faded and worn. In a signed hand-written letter on The Memphis Country Club letterhead that accompanied the donation dated Nov. 17 1976 Watson wrote: I used this club in the late 1950s + early 60s. I think all of my pictures are in Florida and will try to remember to send one. Best wishes.

Includes original letter that Middlecoff sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a black-and-white 8" x 10" photo signed in fine-point black marker showing him using an iron on the fairway.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
