Former big league southpaw Gary Peters enjoyed 14 successful seasons including a stellar rookie campaign (19-8 189 K’s and 2.34 ERA) that culminated with him receiving both the A.L. Rookie of the Year Award as well as being named to the annual Topps All Star Rookie “Young America’s Favorite” lineup! That season in fact Peters pitched a complete game one-hitter on July 15 against the Baltimore Orioles that included 13 strikeouts! This lot features the actual trophy that Peters received that year from Topps. Standing just under 10” tall the two-tiered trophy includes a wooden base that measures four inches wide upon which sits a bronze top hat with a ballplayer swinging through at the plate. The front of the trophy includes an engraved gold plaque that reads: “TOPPS All Star Rookie YOUNG AMERICA’S FAVORITE 1963 GARY PETERS CHICAGO WHITE SOX LEFT HANDED PITCHER.”Includes LOA from Gary Peters.
