Former southpaw pitcher Gary Peters played 14 seasons in the major leagues from 1959 to ’73 and collected 124 wins during his tenure. His second-best season ever took place in 1963 when the 26-year-old Peters posted a record of 19-8 with a 2.34 ERA and 189 K’s to not only lead the Chicago White Sox pitching corps but also notch the A.L. “Rookie of the Year” award his first full season with the team. This lot features his 1963 A.L. Rookie of the Year award that was presented to him by the Baseball Writers Association ofAmerica (BWAA). The sterling silver bowl which measures four inches high eight inches deep is nicely engraved on the front with the following text: “BASEBALL WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA 1963 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AMERICAN LEAGUE GARY PETERS CHICAGO WHITE SOX.” The bowl remains in good condition showing onlyminor wear in the inside.Includes LOA from Gary Peters.
