Beautiful 1949 14K Gold Junior World Series charm given to Pittsburgh Pirate farmhand Don Gutteridge. The 1949 Indianapolis Indians finished 2nd to the St. Paul Saints by 1/2 game. They went on win the American Association play-offs and then defeat the International League Champion Montreal Royals 4 games to 2 in the Junior World Series. Gutteridge spent a lifetime in baseball as a player coach manager and scout. For 12 years he performed as a player in the big leagues being both a member of the famed St. Louis Cardinals gas house gang in the 1930's and also for the St. Louis Browns in 1944 when they won their only American League pennant. He also played for the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates. He briefly managed the Chicago White Sox in 19691970. In his later years he became a scout a position he held with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1975 through his retirement in 1992. 14K Gold charm is shaped like a baseball diamond with a real diamond at the pitcher's mound and "1949" below. Along the base paths in blue enamel is ""INDIANAPOLIS JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONS'. Back is stamped "Donald Gutteridge 14K". Great looking piece!
