Chicago stadium was home to the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL)from 1929-94 and Chicago Bulls (NBA) from 1967-94. The stadium also has the significance of hosting the first ever NFL playoff game in 1932 between the Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans. From 1920 through 1931 the NFL had declared their champion based on winning percentage. However in 1932 the Chicago and Portsmouth teams tied with a 6-1 record with two ties in their previous meetings. Because of a severe blizzard the game was moved from Wrigley Field to Chicago Stadium. The game proved to be so popular that the NFL began regular playoff games in 1933 to crown a champion.
Presented here is a stadium seat painted in bright red. This wooden folding seat and three-panel back rest are firmly secured within a metal frame. The repainted seat shows some light wear but presents very nicely. A metal badge with the number "9" has been affixed to the top slat of the seat back. The seat is fully functional and is mounted to a modern wood base for display.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
