Before the Frank Thomas better known as the "Big Hurt" there was the original Frank Thomas who spent the first half of his career in Pittsburgh where he slugged 163 homer runs over a six-year stretch (1953-58) for the Pirates and made three National League All-Star teams. In '58 he belted 35 home runs and drive in 109 to finish 4th in the MVP voting.
This offered Frank Thomas Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger professional model bat dates to the late 50's and displays outstanding evidence of use. There is a plethora of ball contact marks cleat marks grain separation bat rack marks including a long blue/green paint transfer along the barrel and pine tar remnants on the handle. A handle crack has been professionally restored. The knob is stamped "P83" and the bat measures 34.5" and weighs 31.5 oz. Thomas journeyed with six other N.L. teams later in his career and finished with a .266 average and 286 homers.
