Anybody basketball fan old enough to either be collecting or at least scrupulously eyeballing Social Security no doubt remember Bill Walton's incredible career at UCLA from 1971 to 1974 winning the national title in 1972 over Florida State and again in 1973 with an 8766 win over Memphis State in which Walton made 21 of 22 field goal attempts and scored 44 points representing more than half his team's total points. For many of those very same fans it was and remains the greatest single-game performance by any collegiate player ever.

With such an august resume comes this amazing game-worn warmup jacket from the man was the backbone of two consecutive 300 seasons and was also part of UCLA's NCAA Men's Basketball record 88-game winning streak. The UCLA streak contributed to a personal winning streak that lasted almost five years in which Walton's high school UCLA freshman (freshmen were ineligible for the varsity at that time) and UCLA varsity teams did not lose a game from the middle of his junior year of high school to the middle of his senior year in college.

On the inside of the snap button jacket behind the snaps is the "Sand-Knit" label and Size 42; nearby Walton's No. 32 is written in black marker. "UCLA" appears across the front in blue and white tackle twill; the jacket has blue and white stripes near the shoulder and yellow blue and white knitted elastic at the cuffs and collar. The NBA Hall of Famer has signed on the left shoulder in black marker. All elements of the jersey appear to be intact and as-issued. A Polaroid photograph of the jacket is included along with a newspaper clipping with a photograph of Walton in a very similar looking warmup jacket after his 44-point game against Memphis State in 1973. The game photos attached are not exact style matches; rather they show the general style UCLA wore during this era which is very close to this example. The only difference lies in the placement and alignment of the "UCLA" in relation to the snap buttons.

The jacket was originally procured by a USC football and baseball player named Chris Vella who was a member of the 1972 NCAA Champion Trojans. According to Vella in high school he befriended a girl named Susan Guth who became Bill Walton's girlfriend at UCLA. She got the jacket from Walton during college and later gifted it to Vella. Susan Guth would eventually become Susan Walton. She and Bill are still happily married today.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from USC athlete Chris Vella.
