ADDENDUM: HEADING UPDATED FROM CATALOG (TEAM SPECIFIC AND GREATER YEAR RANGE). POSSIBLE PLAYER PROVENANCE ADDED

This rare helmet was one of the first Riddell models manufactured and sold with a one-piece shell. Earlier designs used 3-piece shells. The material of this shell is most likely Riddell Kralite (chemical name: Acrilonitrile Butadiene Styrene or ABS). The shell is painted green with the Eagle wing in silver on each side and number "38" decals on the back next to the Riddell logo stamp. The interior has the then-standard three-loop six-point suspension system. "7 5/8" (size) and "3" are penned in black on the rear suspension straps. The leather roof pad reads "Riddell Suspension Helmet" with three patent numbers.(2250275 2293308 and 2359387). The original chinstrap and both ear flaps are present and heavily worn. The protective bar (aka facemask) that would be customary for the era is missing. It displays visible wear and aging throughout perhaps from practice or game use but the player provenance is unknown. The Philadelphia Eagles began wearing the silver Eagle emblem on their green-painted helmets in 1954 and then changed to a white emblem in 1969. During this time Rob Goode (FB) and Sam Baker (K) were the only Eagles to wear #38. What a splendid piece of vintage football equipment from the 1950s and 1950's that comes largely as-issued and problem-free.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
