You’d be hard-pressed to find a more visually striking Type 1 photo of heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles than this. The “Cincinnati Cobra” held the heavyweight title from 1949 to 1951 and made eight successful title defenses during that time. The champ stares directly at the camera as he demonstrates his fight stance in this dramatic, almost film-noir portrait. The mirror behind Charles gives another perspective of his stance and creates a unique portrait. The front of the photo has full borders and a warm tone from age. The reverse has the George W. Rhein credit stamp and various handwritten notations. The photograph measures 8” x 10” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
