Heavyweight legend Jack Dempsey dominated his class during the teens and twenties. World Champion from 1919 to 1926, Dempsey retired after losing the title to a young Gene Tunney. This beautiful Type 1 photo shows the former champ in 1932 when he was contemplating a comeback. Looking just as fit as he did a decade earlier, the photographer captured Dempsey shadow-boxing in front of a mirror in a Chicago gym. The front of the photo shows great clarity with full borders. The photo has taken on a warm sepia tone with age, with some creasing on the top and bottom left area. The reverse has the Associated Press credit stamp, and the original 1932-dated caption slug affixed. The photograph measures 8” x 10” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
