In 1934 brothers Dizzy and Daffy Dean won 30 and 19 games respectively to pitch the St. Louis Cardinals to the National League pennant. In the World Series against Detroit the brother duo again excelled each winning two games to give the Cardinals the World Championship. Thus in 1934 there were no better known ballplayers in the country than the Deans and as such the pair capitalized on their fame by lending their likenesses to promote many various products. Of them the Beech-Nut tobacco ads are by far the most well-known and sought after. This is the poster version of the companys ad campaign which features the Deans each holding a baseball out towards the viewer in front of a glove holding the distinctive Beech-Nut package behind them. Behind them is a yellow-green background with the companys“A Great Chew slogan in blue script. With the dynamic composition and fame of the players depicted the 1934 Dean Brothers Beech-Nut ad is one of the finest examples of 1930s advertising art. The poster measures 10x 20 and carries the faint original horizontal fold. Small pieces of adhesive tape are visible in the upper corners from when it was originally displayed. The colors remain vibrant and clear and are enhanced by the professional matting and frame. To read an article about this collection from Sports Collectors Daily click here.
