When Babe Ruths talent began to wane with age Dizzy Dean eagerly stepped right in to take his place as the most famous ballplayer in the country. Dean burst onto the national scene in 1932 when he won 18 games for the Cardinals. In 1934 Dean won 30 games to lead the Cards to the World Series where he won another 2 games as St. Louis clinched the World Championship. Dean would win 150 big league games and earn himself a plaque in Cooperstown and a place among the greats of the game. And ol Diz did it all with style and flair making him a natural for personal endorsements and advertising opportunities. This Art Deco masterpiece was produced circa 1936 by the Grape Nuts company. Featuring a stylized Dizzy Dean unleashing his fastball the die-cut display measures approximately 29 ½ x 33. The dimensional brochure holder is still in place along with an example of the brochure that explains the“valuable prizes available with the Grape Nuts promotion. Additionally a second brochure holder has been added which contains a different Dizzy Dean endorsed Grape Nuts promotion. The display shows expected edge wear and surface scuffs and dings from age. The colors remain brilliant and is every bit 1930s advertising art at its finest. The piece has been professionally mounted in a dimensional shadow box frame to fully highlight this amazing display.
