This stunning Babe Ruth display encompasses passion for sports and recreation. Of course, as the greatest ballplayer of all time, there are plenty of baseball pieces such as a First Day Cover for his 1983 commemorative stamp, circular painting depicting scenes from his Yankees career and two baseball cards. The Babe’s hunting and outdoorsman side is represented by the novelty “Sultan of Swat” pocket knife. The most interesting piece and the focal point of the display is the signed 8x10 photograph of Ruth playing golf. While Ruth is known throughout the world for his home run hitting, it is not widely known that the Babe was an avid golfer. Not only did he play the game as often as he could, but many believed he could have turned pro after he retired from baseball. However, the Babe was content to play for the sheer enjoyment of it, telling a reporter in the late 1930s: “I played 365 rounds last year. Thank God for whoever invented golf.” The photograph has been signed by the Babe in strong black fountain pen and inscribed with, “To a sweet little girl Ethel Perry From Babe Ruth.” The display has been professionally mounted and framed. The piece comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA, which has awarded the autograph with a prestigious MINT 9 signature grade.
