Offered is a pair of vintage football cleats and shoulder pads that predate the Leatherheads era. Constructed of both leather uppers and soles the high-top style shoes (approx. size 10) feature nine individual 5/8" wood cleats nailed into each sole. The wear and tear of the leather has eliminated any visible brand stamp or patent date but the "stacked" leather design dates to the 1920s. There is a "9 3090" stamp visible inside the right shoe (partially legible on the left). Heavy wear inside and out is apparent for each shoe yet the what looks to be the original laces are perfectly intact and the cleats come essentially as-issued and problem-free in VG-EX condition.

The early 1910s era footall shoulder pads come equipped with solid leather on top and 1/2" wool padding on the bottom. "XAC K 35" is branded on the exterior leather. The original leather laces holding the two general sides together are still intact and functioning quite well considering the level of age and wear displayed. The cupped leather pads that go over each shoulder are attached by a still strong leather band and the elastic straps that go around the arms to hold the pads down are also in surprisingly great shape. For the most part the leather has maintained its genuine brown color. Cracking and stretch marks are evident throughout. Overall the pads are in Excellent condition retaining the original lacing and straps. Rare combo of vintage football equipment literally straight out of a museum.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
