Offered here is a vintage Thoroughbred "Dog Ear" style leather football helmet from the 1920s. The head harness can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the webbing band. The leather and stitching on the exterior and the cotton interior padding are all intact. Holes for the chinstrap are present but the strap itself is not. Both dog ear flaps are intact although the left flap is slightly torn and some of the cotton padding has worn thin or been removed. The Thoroughbred brand stamp on the back exterior is still quite legible. The helmet not just aged on its own; it shows plenty wear too. This is a transitional helmet style as the "dog-ear" protection was evolving covering more of the ear area soon to give way to helmets that fully enclosed the head. Near Mint condition is remarkable for a piece this early.
