Ben Hogan was an American professional golfer generally considered one of the greatest players in the history of the game. His nine career professional major championships tie him with Gary Player for fourth all-time trailing only Jack Nicklaus (18) Tiger Woods (14) and Walter Hagen (11). He is one of only five golfers to have won all four major championships. This lot features one of Hogans trusty clubs his used Equalizer pitching wedge that the Boys Club of Royal Oak then labeled as a sand wedge to complete the most unique set of golf clubs ever assembled. The 36 Hogan Equalizer wedge shows ample use and boasts a 10 Ben Hogan AMF exclusively designed black rubber grip with gold accents. This is the wedge that Hogan happily donated to the special project on behalf of the Boys Club of Royal Oak Michigan. In a signed typed letter on AMF Ben Hogan Company letterhead that accompanied the donation dated February 24 1977 Hogan wrote: Please forgive me for not responding to your request before this late date. So many requests the same as yours are received and it seems impossible to take care of them in the allotted expected time. Under separate cover I am sending you a pitching wedge which I have used and I hope it will be adequate to complete your set. All good wishes for the success of your project.

Includes original signed letter that Hogan sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a black-and-white 8" x 10" artist's rendering of Hogan about to make contact with a facsimile signature in black at the bottom.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
