Arnold Palmer was quite simply one of the best golfers of all time. Now 85 years old Palmer is retired but remains one of the greatest players in men's professional golf history. He won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour dating as far back as 1955. Nicknamed "The King" he is one of golf's most popular stars and its most important trailblazer because he was the first superstar of the sport's television age which began in the 1950s. Palmer won a total of seven majors: The Masters (1958 60 62 and 64); the U.S. Open (1960); and The British Open (1961 and 62). This lot features one of Palmers used custom golf bags which he donated to the special project on behalf of the Boys Club of Royal Oak Michigan. The two-tone white-and-blue leather bag which stands 35 tall Shows incredible wear and includes Palmers faded signature in black marker across the front just above a diagonal zipper pouch. Raised script lettering in Royal blue that reads Arnold Palmer Golf Co. adorns the front of the bag. Its original two-tone shoulder strap is still intact although it is cracked in two places. In a signed typed letter on his personalized letterhead that accompanied the donation dated March 21 1977 Palmer wrote: I am happy to provide you with one of my old golf bags for your Boys Club project. Its a pleasure to join the many other distinguished golf professionals who are participating in this outstanding effort for your fine organization. Best regards.

Includes original letter that Palmer sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a black-and-white 5" x 7" photo showing him finishing his drive.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
