1971’s Joe Frazier-Muhammad Ali title match was one of the most anticipated events in sports history. Ali had famously been stripped of his titles when he refused to be drafted in 1967. After a long legal battle, Ali’s conviction for draft evasion was overturned in 1971. Ali’s return to the ring was met with both celebration and derision, making the leadup to the Frazier-Ali fight even more dramatic. This Type 1 photo was taken by famed Madison Square Garden photographer George Kalinsky at Ali’s training camp as he prepared for what was billed as the "Fight of the Century." This photo is the mate of Kalinsky’s photo of Frazier in our next lot. The Type 1 photo measures 8” x 10” and has all four borders. The reverse of the photo has the original caption and credit information. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
Payment for your invoice must clear in full prior to shipping. All items will be shipped from SCP Auctions’ Laguna Niguel, CA office in the order that payments are received. Please allow up to three business days following clearance of payment for items to ship. All items will be shipped UPS/FedEx Ground unless you contact us to discuss an alternative shipping method.
