In May of 1979 the United States Women's Basketball Team won the gold medal at the 8th FIBA World Championship for Women by outlasting its competition in South Korea with a 5-1 overall record. One of the mainstays on the American squad that year was Ann Meyers a feisty 5' 9" guard out of UCLA. This lot features a Certificate of Recognition that Meyers received from the Amateur Basketball Association of the United States of America (ABAUSA). The laminated wooden plaque which measures 13" wide by 11" high includes a silhouetted map of the United States in the center with the following text appearing over it in red: "The Amateur Basketball Association of the United States of America (ABAUSA) presents this Certificate of Recognition to Members of USA Gold Medal Team - Ann Meyers - 8th FIBA World Championship for Women South Korea May 1979." It includes facsimile signatures from three high-ranking basketball officials: George E. Killian President ABAUSA; Claudia Dodson Chairperson Games Committee; and William L. Wall Executive Director ABAUSA.
