Ann Meyers one of 11 children born to Bob and Pat Meyers of La Habra California was a tenacious athlete who turned out to be one of the greatest female basketball players in history. She not only earned a four-year basketball scholarship to attend UCLA - the first woman ever to do so - but was named an All-America selection four years in a row. And it was during the 1977-78 season that Meyers and the Lady Bruins turned in a spectacular campaign that resulted in winning the AIAW tournament which was the precursor to the NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Championship Tournament.
For her unyielding efforts at guard that season Meyers was not only named UCLA's Outstanding Women's Basketball Player but also took home the impressive honor of UCLA's "All University Athlete" Award. Featured here is the oversized wooden trophy that Meyers was awarded which measures 17" wide by 22" tall. A bronzed version of Nike the winged "Goddess of Victory" appears on the second level of the three-tiered trophy. The award is an impressive work of craftsmanship that boasts UCLA's trademark yellow-and-blue team school colors via three different applied plaques on the structure the last and largest of which reads: "ANN MEYERS ALL UNIVERSITY ATHLETE BASKETBALL 1977-78."
