Basketball Hall of Famer Alex English was one of the leagues top-scoring small forwards. Standing 6'7" English played a total of 15 seasons in the NBA including 10 1/2 with the Denver Nuggets. The final season of his impressive career occurred in 1990-91 as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. It was during this final campaign when English recorded a significant milestone by reaching the 25000th point plateau - not bad for a 2nd round draft pick in 1976 out of the University of South Carolina. During an away game in Portland on Dec. 14 1990 English racked up 13 points to surpass the magic number in a losing cause as the Mavs fell to the Trail Blazers 106-104. Teaming with the likes of Rolando Blackman Derek Harper and Rodney McCray English also pulled down five rebounds that night. This lot features the actual game-used Spalding basketball with which English tallied his 25000th point! The official (Stern) game ball shows ample usage and includes "Portland Trail Blazers" stamped in black on one of the panels. The photo attached from the game is most likely a photo-match as they typically use one ball for the entire game. Truly a significant piece of basketball memorabilia commemorating a great feat by one of the leagues most prolific shooters.
