Basketball Hall of Famer Alex English was one of the leagues top-scoring small forwards. Standing 6'7" English played a total of 15 seasons in the NBA including 10½ with the Denver Nuggets. His final season was 1990-91 with the Dallas Mavericks as he surpassed the impressive milestone of 25000 career points. Not bad for a 2nd round draft pick in 1976 out of the University of South Carolina. Featured here is a 1989-90 pair of Asics sneakers game-worn and signed by English during his last season with the Nuggets in which he averaged a very respectable 17.9 points at the age of 36.
These Asics Gel high-tops come in primarily white leather with the Asics brand stipe pattern in royal blue with orange outline on each side. The heels are blue and gray with a yellow rubber insert stamped asics. The heavily-padded upper ankles were originally coated with a white paint-like substance that has mostly rubbed off at this point due to wear and aging. The original white laces are intact. The shoes are equipped with a Velcro strap that crosses the laces and tongue. They come in what appears to be size 16 (label on insole has worn off) showing excellent wear in the interior and evident game use on the outsoles and outer canvas. Alex English has signed each shoe on the gray ankle section in red marker. Aside from the coating on upper ankle that has rubbed off they come largely as-issued and problem-free. This pair was procured by a former Atlanta Hawks ball boy who was gifted these and many other game-worn sneakers from Hawks players and opponents during his tenure.
