Ace Hudkins was one of southern California's most popular fighter during the late 1920s. He fought competitively from lightweight to light-heavyweight and eventually won the California State Heavyweight Title. This lot includes several of his boxing items that he wore and/or utilized during his career which spanned from 1923 to 32. First is a pair of his lightly padded ox blood colored leather boxing gloves with ivory leather and oil cloth edging and white cotton fabric lining. Unreinforced lacing holes are visible on the underside as are vent holes. Both gloves show the SOL. LEVINSON manufacturer's label stitched to upper side at wrist. Next is a beige knit long sleeved sweater with collar and button at top of the neck. Diamond shaped red felt patch with white felt applique design (ACE) can be seen at upper PL breast. In addition this lot includes brown cotton velvet boxing shorts that were worn by Hudkins when he fought Mickey Walker in Los Angeles on October 29 1929. A fully intact eight-and-half foot vintage leather jump rope with wooden handles and brass-caps on the ends is also part of the mix. The lot concludes with a large (40 high by 30 wide) colored and glazed photograph of Hudkins. Slightly turned in his stance his right hand is forward and he is wearing purple velvet trunks.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
