In 1952, the New York Yankees truly became Mickey Mantle’s team in his first full season in pinstripes. The Commerce Comet helped lead New York to its third consecutive World Series championship that year, beating the Brooklyn Dodgers in a hard-fought seven-game series. In this classic original photograph dated September 30, 1952, 21-year-old Mantle and Yankees rookie Billy Martin talk strategy on the eve of the Fall Classic. 1952 was Martin’s first full season as well, and he made a critical game-saving catch in Game 7 to preserve the Yankees’ two-run lead and ultimately help them emerge victorious. Mantle hit the first of his record 18 World Series homers in Game 6. Captioned nicely on the reverse by United Press with their official stamp, overall condition is excellent and image clarity is very sharp. There is some wrinkle creasing on the lower left corner.
