This timely Type 1 original photograph captures Stan Musial sliding into home after completing the only inside-the-park home run of his long career on August 15, 1949. It came in the top of the fifth inning off Cubs starter Bob Chipman in the Cardinals' 5-2 win at Wrigley. The ball ricocheted away from Hank Sauer down the left field line, allowing The Man to beat relay throw home to catcher Mickey Owens. Musial has autographed below his sliding body in thick blue marker.
The clear 7x9" photo shows minor editorial outlines around Musial's body as this image was used in the Chicago Tribune. The reverse has a cut-out of the captioned newspaper clipping and a stamp from Acme Newspictures. Displaying some surface wear and blue marks on the borders, it still presents quite well. His bold autograph pops beautifully. From the Musial Collection auction several years ago, it comes with a PSA/DNA Type 1 LOA with a perfect 10 grade for the autograph. COA from JSA (K92571) also included.
