In 1999 major league slugger Jose Canseco played his only season with the then-Tampa Bay Devil Rays and made the most of his short time in Florida: 120 hits including 34 home runs and 95 runs batted in. He also received his sixth and final American League All-Star nod. In the 55th game of the season on June 5 Canseco hit his 21st round-tripper of the year a two-run shot in the seventh inning into the left field bleachers off Marlins middle reliever Jesus Sanchez at Tropicana Field. The actual bat Canseco used to launch that particular home run is featured in this lot. The Jose Canseco model Sam bat measures 36 long and shows considerable game use with multiple contact marks and bat rack marks throughout the barrel along with minor remnants of pine tar use along the handle. Canseco using a fine point silver paint pen signed and inscribed the barrel of the bat: Jose Canseco #33 Homerun #21 1999 Gamer. The attached Getty photo from an earlier game on June 1 appears to be a photo-match for the bat.
