Just two days after he gave his farewell speech at Yankee Stadium, a moment immortalized in Nat Fein’s famous “Babe Bows Out” photograph,  Babe Ruth signed and dated this 1930's original photo for two of his fans. Inscribed, “To Bobby and Donie Ruhl from Babe Ruth 6-15-48” in black fountain pen, Ruth signed the front of his road jersey in this stunning photo. He would die of throat cancer three months later on August 16th.

Almost as interesting as the important date of the inscription is the wad of chewing gum the Babe has placed on the button of his ballcap, a quaint and common practice at the time. The photo shows some light wear to the white edges. The reverse has “The Bambino” written in ink and “1925” in pencil.

The photo itself has been encapsulated by PSA/SNA as Type II, meaning it was developed off the original negative more than two years after it was taken. The reverse year notation attributes it to a 1925 photo of Babe. PSA/DNA authenticator Henry Yee identifies the development era as the 1930's. Ruth's 1948 signature has been deemed "Authentic" by PSA/DNA and also comes with a full LOA from JSA.
