This Type 1 photograph of World Series action demonstrates the style of play that made Jackie Robinson one of the greatest players of all time. The action unfolds in Yankee Stadium in the first inning of Game 6 of the 1947 World Series. The Dodgers had the bases loaded when Dixie Walker hit a grounder to Phil Rizzuto at shortstop. The Scooter made the play, but as he turned to throw to first for a double killing, Robinson slid feet-first into the bag in an attempt to break up the double play. Though Robinson knocked down Rizzuto, momentarily stunning him, Rizzuto’s throw made it to first in time to get Walker. A thrilling action shot from Jackie’s rookie season. The reverse has the Acme Newspictures credit stamps, the original caption slg, and a George Michael Collection hologram affixed. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.
