The Brooklyn Dodgers started their iconic 1955 World Championship campaign red hot, winning 10 straight games to open the season. This offered original photograph, taken April 21st after win number ten, features (left to right) Jackie Robinson, Joe Black, Duke Snider, Don Zimmer, Gil Hodges and Manager Walter Alston yucking it up in the clubhouse with a hilarious sign on the chalkboard behind them. The camaraderie depicted amongst this crew of Dodger legends is palpable, reflecting the team's great chemistry and determination during such a magical season. After a 14-4 romp over the Phillies at Ebbets Field in which Jackie, Duke and young Zim (rookie season) all homered, no wonder they were in such a playful post-game mood.
The reverse is blank, save for an official International News stamp and remants of a caption slug no longer present. Condition is oustanding except for a small tear on the top left. Each player's face appears in exceptionally sharp resolution, a testament to the renowned work of Barney Stein. Thanks to the book, Through a Blue Lens, written posthumously by his daughter, Bonnie, which shows this scene on page 17, we were able to rightfully credit the Dodgers' famous photographer for this special snapshot.
