This timely original photograph shows the great Jackie Robinson sliding safely into third base during Game 3 of the 1955 World Series at Ebbets Field. With one out in the bottom of the 7th, Jackie hit a liner up against the wall in left and flew around the bases so fast that the throw came into second. He decoyed a throw to the wrong base with his speed, ending up at third. (See vid below at 3:30 mark). It was scored a double. The next man up, Sandy Amoros, knocked him in with a single to make it 7-3 in favor of Brooklyn. They went on to win, 8-3, to make the series tally two games to one for the Yankees. Of course, the Dodgers went on to win defeat New York in the Fall Classic for the first time and win their one and only championship in Brooklyn.
The wonderful action shot, captured by renowned sports photographer William C. Greene, shows the grit Jackie and the rest of the Dodgers had throughout the 1955 season to make this monumental achievement possible. The reverse has a "World-Telegram & Sun Photo by WM. C. Greene" stamp along with a Sporting News Collection archive sticker. Pencil notations describe the moment. There is some creasing on the top edge and left corner, but its overall image quality and surface condition are outstanding.
