Featured here is an eye-catching pair of Kobe Bryant’s 2007-08 game-worn and dual-autographed sneakers from his one and only NBA Most Valuable Player season. "The Black Mamba" averaged 28.3 points 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists and played in all 82 games for the Los Angeles Lakers taking them to the NBA Finals where they lost to their storied rivals from Boston. Kobe led all scorers during the playoffs at 30.1 ppg but he just did not have enough help against the Celtic’s “Big Three.” These awesome kicks were sourced through a longtime Lakers employee who wishes to remain anonymous.
The Nike Zoom Air Huarache 2K4 shoes have a lightweight high-top design and come in an artistic purple and black colorway that can be style-matched (and possibly photo-matched) to two games early in the season: Nov. 14 2007 at Houston (Getty 77920147) and Nov. 23 at Boston (Getty 78389751). Kobe put up 30 points in a 93-90 win over the Rockets before tallying 28 in a loss to the Celtics. Apparently he sported these to match the Lakers away uniforms.
The interior tagging indicates his size 14 along with "05/16/07” and “08/01/07” to denote the manufacturing date range. The black tongues are stamped with “Huarache” and covered by a lace holder Velcro strap emblazoned with “Kobe.” The original black laces are present as is the Nike-issued insole stamped with the Black Mamba logo. The heels are again stamped with the Mamba logo along with Kobe’s original jersey number “8” which he was wearing when Nike originally released this style during the 2003-04 season.
The Huarache 2K4 is actually the first Nike pair Kobe wore after fleeing his sneaker deal with Adidas. Kobe wore a white colorway style in 2003-04 and for whatever reason (maybe for comfort) he gave the Huarache 2K4’s another run four years later. He has added his lovely 8-9/10 silver Sharpie autograph to each shoe on the outer toe area. Both shoes exhibit moderate game use with evident heel drag. What an incredible offering off the feet of the 18-time All-Star and 5-time NBA Champion!
Full LOA from PSA/DNA for each shoe.
