During the 2002 MLB season Boston Red Sox right-hander Pedro Martinez posted a 20-4 record with a league leading 2.26 ERA. Despite striking out 239 baters he finished second in the American League Cy Young Award balloting to Oaklands Barry Zito (23-5). This lot features a game-worn fielders mitt that Martinez used during that phenomenal season. The offered black Rawlings Gold Glove series mitt (PRO200-4B) shows moderate use with noticeable pocket wear. It is constructed out of heart of the hide leather and features a modified T-Web with black lacing. A snap wrist is present which made it easier for Martinez to utilize the attached blue Rawlings wristband. The glove boasts special red script embroidery on the outside of the thumb area spelling Jerito Nayla Pedro Martinez which is a tribute to his children: Pedros Kids. This is a special piece of game-used sports memorabilia worn by one of the Baseball Hall of Fames newest inductees.
