Paolo Maldini is universally regarded as the greatest defender in the history of the sport — an AC Milan and Italian football legend whose elegance, intelligence, and longevity made him peerless at left back and central defense. This is his actual match-worn and signed Italy #3 jersey from the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan — Maldini's fifth and final World Cup, which he acknowledged on the garment itself.
The jersey is constructed of bright Azzurri blue Kappa performance fabric with the Kappa logo on both sleeves, the official "2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan" patch on the left sleeve, and three gold stars on the right sleeve honoring World Cup title tally at that time. The Italia shield crest appears on the upper right chest above Maldini's #3 in white. The back displays "MALDINI" above his jersey number. The jersey displays an ample amount of match wear with evident pilling and stretching.
Maldini has autographed the front in black marker with the remarkable inscription, "Il mio ultimo mondiale" ("My last World Cup") in black marker. This extraordinarily personal and historically specific dedication elevates this jersey to the highest tier of match-used memorabilia.
Authentication & Provenance
Letters of Authenticity from MEARS for the jersey and PSA/DNA for the autograph.
The Football Scout Collection
This jersey comes from one of the most impressive vintage football collections known to exist. Once a star amateur player, the collector worked as a scout for multiple clubs and national teams, prospecting young football talent across the globe. Through his experience and unique connections, he procured almost every item directly from players or kitmen.
