Pep Guardiola is widely considered the greatest manager in the history of professional soccer. Just one other man, Luis Enrique, has guided his clubs to the prestigious continental treble twice. Yet only Pep’s squads have the longest unbeaten streaks in La Liga (FC Barcelona), Bundesliga (Bayern Munich), and the Premier League where the Catalan prodigy has built Manchester City into a world football power in the past ten years.
Before becoming a legendary coach, Guardiola starred on the pitch for Barcelona (1990-2001) primarily as a defensive midfielder known for his adept playmaking and tactical brilliance from the back. Part of Johan Cruyff's “Dream Team” that won Barça’s first European Cup (UEFA Champion’s League) in 1992, Pep helped lead the club to four straight La Liga titles (1991-94) and served as team captain from 1997-2000. As a National Team player, Guardiola earned 47 caps for Spain, appearing in the 1994 World Cup and 2000 Euro Cup.
Featured here is a Pep Guardiola FC Barcelona UEFA Champions League match worn jersey from the giant club’s 1999/2000 centennial season. The short-sleeved home model shirt has the classic Barça blue and garnet (deep red) colors split down the middle with an embroidered F.C.B. crest flanked by “1899” and “1999” in gold. “GUARDIOLA” and his number “4” are applied to the reverse in gold. The UEFA Champions League soccer ball patch is applied to the right sleeve. The collar and sleeve ends are designed with elastic blue and red trim. Proper Nike tagging is stamped inside the collar with size XL indicated. There is strong evidence of match wear with an unwashed aroma and puncture marks from player contact on the back number.
Includes LOA from MEARS and letter of provenance from Marcos Teixeira, a longtime Technical Coordinator for the Brazil National Team and Real Madrid; he is also the nephew of former CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) President Ricardo Teixeira.
