Offered here is an AC Milan Serie A home jersey from the 2002/03 season worn by Brazilian great Rivaldo and preserved in the Oscar Bernardi Collection. Rivaldo Vítor Borba Ferreira joined Milan in 2002 following his FIFA World Cup heroics with Brazil. Part of the "Three R's" along with Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, he scored in the first five matches at the tournament (hosted by Korea and Japan) to earn the Golden Ball award as Brazil won its record fifth world title. From 1997-2002, the attacking midfielder scored 130 goals in 235 total matches for FC Barcelona to become a Camp Nou legend. 2002/03 was his lone season in Milan helping lead the famed club win the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League.
The short-sleeve jersey made by Adidas in its Climacool mesh fabric comes in AC Milan's classic Rossoneri red and black vertical stripe pattern with a V-neck collar. It has black raglan-style sleeves with Adidas three-stripe detailing in red on the shoulders and the Adidas Trefoil logo on the chest alongside the iconic AC Milan crest. The torso displays kit sponsor "Opel" (automotive) in white. The Lega Calcio (Serie A) patch appears on the right sleeve, with a special felt patch honoring the club's 5 league titles on the left sleeve. The reverse has "RIVALDO" and his "11" numerals affixed in white. Tagged within the inner collar (size XL), the shirt exhibits strong evidence of match wear with stretching, contact marks, and paint transfers (presumably from wearing the captain's armband).
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
