In 2001 the New York Yankees managed by Joe Torre and guided by longtime bench coach Don Zimmer posted a regular-season record of 95-65 to finish first in the A.L. East Division standings 13.5 games ahead of the runner-up Boston Red Sox. The Yankees made it all the way back to their fourth consecutive World Series before bowing to the Arizona Diamondbacks four games to three. This lot features Zimmer’s game worn and signed New York Yankees jersey from that memorable season.
Zimmer has signed the front of the jersey in blue fine-point marker immediately below the iconic interlocking NY logo. He has added the inscription “Game used 2001.” The Size 48 100% polyester white jersey with navy pinstripes has all the appropriate Majestic Russell Athletic tagging with size and fabric content adorning the front left tail. The game worn jersey has the American League 100th anniversary patch sewn on the right sleeve and the iconic red white and blue embroidered MLB logo tag on the back of the collar area.
