From the greatest closer in the history of baseball comes his 1998 game-worn and autographed road jersey. Mariano Rivera played his entirecareer with the New York Yankees and was perhaps the only playerrespected enough to wear the iconic No. 42 after Jackie Robinson. It'sonly fitting that the number is now retired for good. The Panamanianlegend dominated hitters by mastering one pitch--his magical cutter.In 1998 the Yankees won their second World Series championship in three years and started a string of three consecutive Fall Classic titles. During this particular season Rivera registered 36 saves three wins and a 2.33 ERA.
The gray button-down jersey has "NEW YORK" arched across the chest innavy blue tackle twill outlined in white with the famed "42" applied tothe back insimilar tackle twill fashion. The sleeve ends have navy and white elastic trim. Proper "Russell Athletic Authentic Diamond Collection" label is found on the front left tail (size 46) positioned above a separate identifier reading "1998" to indicate the season. Affixed to the Russell Athletic tag is a Steiner Sports holographic authentication hologram (#SS192818). Rivera has autographed the front of the jersey in blue-point marker and added the inscription: “1998 game used.” Jersey exhibits moderate wear typical of a relief pitcher with fraying to the stitched numbers and letters.
