Here's a piece as timely as it is important: a game-worn and signed home jersey from 2016 Hall of Famer Mike Piazza a man who will have his Cooperstown plaque in place before the end of this auction. With his stature as the best-hitting catcher of his generation Piazza comes to the tiny Upstate New York village with a lifetime batting average of .308 427 home runs and 1335 RBI numbers that would demand immortality for an outfielder but take on extraordinary import when they get linked with the tools of ignorance. Toss in a dozen All-Star selections 10 Silver Slugger Awards and a 1993 Rookie of the Year nod and his 16-year career takes on additional weight. This particular jersey traces its roots to the 1999 season arguably Piazza's finest as a Met with 40 home runs 124 RBI's and a .303 batting average. The pinstriped home shirt has "Mets" across the front in blue and orange tackle twill with black twill shadow the same scheme for his No. 31 front and back. AIS Size 50 tagging is on the back inside of the tail. The famed circular Mets embroidered logo patch is on the left sleeve. Piazza has planted a large black Sharpie autograph directly beneath his number on the back. The shirt shows game use and is essentially as-issued and problem-free revealing only the tiniest bit of fraying of the delicate stitching on the twill elements.
