Pete Ward a utility player who hit 98 careerround-trippers competed for three different major league teams (Baltimore Orioles Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees) during the course of hisnine-year MLB career. This is the jersey worn by Ward during his final season in the bigs with the 1970 Yankees. Playing in just 66 games that season Ward collected 20 hits knocked in 18 runs and batted .260.
The Yankees road gray flannel has “NEW YORK” arched across the front in navy blue felt. The Wilson size “44” label complete with washing instructions is sewn on the left front tail. “Ward 70 - 44” is chain stitched in navy on a grey name plate and sewn into the collar of the flannel. Ward’s number “25” is sewn across the back in navy blue felt. The flannel shows ample wear with no visible tears or significant staining. Six of the original seven buttons are intact and the stitching on the lettering remains tight although noticeable puckering is evident on the numbers and letters.
It's hard to find any Yankees flannel gamer in the hobby. The team switched to knit uniforms following the '72 season. Photo example shows Ward's 1970 Yankee's teammate Curt Blefary.
