Danny Romero was a super flyweight boxer who stood 5' 5 tall and had a 68 reach. A native of Albuquerque New Mexico Romero was a world champion who boxed professionally for 14 years and compiled and overall record of 45-5-2. This lot include a pair of Romeros fight-worn gold-and-red satin boxing trunks and the gold-and-red satin jacket he wore into the ring for a fight July 18 1997 against Johnny Tapia. In the scheduled 12-round championship bout which would decide both the WBO and IBF World super flyweight titles Romero the reigning champion dropped a hard-fought unanimous decision to Tapia. The bout was held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas Nevada. The gold satin trunks have red embroidery throughout with his last name ROMERO appearing across the front of the waistband and the name DANIMARIE across the back. Also embroidered on the front are his initials DR on the left front thigh and a biblical reference 2 CORINTHIANS 4:8-9: on the right thigh. Romero has signed the trunks in black fine-tip marker on the right thigh and added the inscription: E9 World Champion. The matching two-tone gold-and-red satin jacket that Romero wore into the ring that night is also included. It boasts Romeros embroidered initials across the left front chest and is personalized by Romero in red fine-point marker across the right side: To Bob! Danny Romero World Champion. A great pairing of fight-worn garments worn by a former super flyweight world champion.
