1994 was Deion Sanders' only season in San Francisco but the dual-sport superstar sure made it count. The perennial All-Pro cornerback and return specialist ignited the 49ers secondary to help the red and gold complete a 13-3 regular season and take home the franchise's 5th Super Bowl trophy. "Primetime" recorded six interceptions and returned three for scores (still an NFL record) including two over 90 yards (1st player to do so). His monster season earned him the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. This lot features Deion's 1994 game-ready signed home red jersey and a pair of cleats from that special season plastered with mud and dirt from intense game action. Both items come with excellent provenance from the widow of a longtime 49ers media and operations executive.

The size 50 Wilson red jersey has the NFL 75th anniversary patch on the left chest. The appropriate manufacturer's tagging appears on the left shirttail. His number "21" comes in white on black tackle twill in a the shadowbox design while "SANDERS" appears on the back are in white block lettering. Wilson "W" logo patches (threading frayed on each) adorn both sleeves. Sanders has autographed the back "2" in 7-8/10 black marker. Sanders wore a few different styles and sizes during his lone season in San Francisco. Photo evidence (Getty 81310762) shows him wearing large loose jerseys and smaller ones that are cut off and/or cuffed at the shirttail. The 49ers players wore a few variations in 1994 some with the 3-striped sleeves and some without some with block numbering and some shadowboxed. Thus this Sanders size 50 was in fact a game-issued home likely never taken out of the 49ers equipment bag. Its 75th anniversary patch has the very subtle "HAY" (in honor of NFL creator Ralph Hay) sewn in red on the bottom of the red "7"; this only appears on genuine patches.

The size 10 Nike cleats which come in the 49ers' white red and gold colors are specially designed with a red Velcro strap that goes over the red laces for a more secure fit. Deion's No. "21" is stamped on each tongue. The shoes are made of leather and have breathable mesh on the outside for temperature control. The black cleats on the bottom are screw ins and caked with grass and dried mud. In fact the shoes are covered in mud and dirt all over. The grass turf at Candlestick was not a favorite among players. At certain high tides in Candlestick Point of the SF Bay the nearby gridiron was literally below sea level making the field conditions wet and sloppy even when it wasn't raining. So these gamer cleats are about as genuine as they come. Deion's autograph is found on the front outside of each cleat in 7/10 black marker. What an awesome lot of Deion Sanders memorabilia with even some grass and dirt remains of the now extinct Candlestick Park field!
