At the time this photograph was taken in August of 1989, Mike Tyson was the undisputed "Baddest Man on the Planet.” His record alone spoke for itself – an undefeated 37 wins, of which 34 were by knockout. He was the reigning world heavyweight champion and was already considered one of the greatest heavyweights in the history of the sport. Photographer John Paschal took this portrait during the filming of a Toyota commercial. The use of black and white film evokes the great fighters of the past, in whose company Mike Tyson would feel right at home. The composition showcases Iron Mike’s steely glare of intimidation and his powerful fists of steel. Taken at the very height of Tyson’s dominance, this piece ranks high among the finest portraits of the champion. The photo has been printed to its edge, showing perfect contrast and crystal-clear detail. The reverse has the John Paschal Celebrity Photo credit stamp and original August 4, 1989 dated caption slug. The photograph measures 7” x 9” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
