Phil Regan had a substantial 13-year career in the majors with success both as a starter and as a reliever for the Tigers Dodgers and Cubs. As primarily a reliever from 1966 on he led the National League in saves twice in 1966 and 1968. Regan went 14-1 with a 1.62 ERA in his breakthrough season as a relief pitcher for the Dodgers in 1966. He was an All-Star that year and a key reason why the Dodgers won the pennant.
For his role as a Dodgers coach Regan received this beautiful 14K gold 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Championship ring. The Series is best remembered for Kirk Gibson's dramatic pinch-hit game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning off Oakland relief ace Dennis Eckersley in Game 1 at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers went on to take the Series in 5 games. The 14K yellow gold ring has a single diamond inset on a blue back stone encircled by smaller diamonds. "World Champion Dodgers 1988" encircles the bezel. One side displays the "LA" logo with "REGAN" above. The other side has the Dodgers script logo above a rendering of a World Series trophy in relief. Stamped "Balfour 14K" on the interior band the size 11-1/2 ring shows minimal wear.
