The Cardinals won their division by three games in 1987, then edged out the San Francisco Giants for the National League pennant. The Cards then met the Minnesota Twins in the World Series. In an odd twist of baseball history, the seven-game series was unique in that the home team won each of the seven games. Unfortunately for St. Louis, four of the seven were played in Minnesota. This National League Champions ring was issued to Cardinals bullpen coach Marty Mason. The face of the ring has “NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 1987” in raised letters surrounding a baseball diamond topped with a diamond with three red rubies above it. “ST. LOUIS CARDINALS” in raised letters runs up the side of the diamond. The right shank has Busch Stadium and the Cardinals mascot with “ST. LOUIS CARDINALS” and “15th WORLD SERIES.” The number “3,072,122” appears on top, celebrating the record number of fans who attended Cardinals games that season. The left shank has “MASON” in raised letters above the Cardinals bat and birds logo and the National League champion trophy. The inside has the “CTO A-1” hallmark. The ring shows nice wear from everyday use.
