Paulo Roberto Falcão will always be regarded as one of Brazil's greatest footballers, and his 1986 FIFA World Cup Brazil National Team match-worn jersey offered here connects directly to one of football's most celebrated tournaments.
A deep-lying playmaker with an eye for goal, Falcão was an elegant and technical savant for club and country. At his peak in the late 1970's and early '80s, Falcão was largely viewed as the best midfielder in the world. In 1980, when he transferred to AS Roma in Serie A, he became the world's highest paid footballer. In 107 appearances from 1980-85 with Roma, Falcão scored 22 goals and assisted on countless others. Roma supporters nicknamed him the “Eighth King of Rome.”
The great Falcão wore this classic canary Brazil National Team jersey during the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. The yellow jersey displays the three-star CBF crest and the logo of shirt manufacturer Topper on the chest, with his iconic number "5" on the reverse in green. The V-neck design with green collar and green cuffed sleeves was the Brazilian squad's official home kit at the '86 World Cup. The shirt displays evidence of ample wear with no condition issues.
The 1986 World Cup represented Falcão's final major tournament, and this Seleção side featuring Zico, Sócrates, and Junior is remembered as one of the most gifted Brazilian squads of all time despite getting knocked out by France on PK's in the quarterfinals.
Jersey authentication is provided by MEARS. Provenance is of the highest order as it comes from the collection of Dr. José Luis Runco, who served as Brazil's team medic from 1984-2014.
