Anthony Jerome Spud Webb was the shortest player ever to compete in the annual NBA Slam Dunk Contest and won the event in 1986 at Dallas' Reunion Arena. His participation surprised the media and his very own high-flying Atlanta Hawks teammate and defending Slam Dunk champion Dominique Wilkins who had "never seen me dunk before" Webb said. A terrific ball handler who dished out 4342 assists during his 13-year (1986 to 98) NBA career Webb stood just 56 tall and continually amazed fans and opponents alike with his 42-inch vertical leap.

This lot features a pair of Webbs game-used and dual-signed PONY City Wings shoes that he wore during the 1985-86 season. The red white and black size 7 shoes show moderate wear and even include their original red laces. This is the exact same style he wore during the much-publicized Slam Dunk contest Webb won with some jaw-dropping dunks that same season during NBA All-Star weekend. He has signed the outside of both shoes in blue ink and added his uniform number ("#4") on both. The signature and inscription on the left shoe is still strong but the autograph and inscription on the right shoe appears somewhat smeared. This is certainly a conversation piece and memorable sports artifact from one of the shortest and most exhilarating players in NBA lore. The pair was obtained from Webb himself by a former ball boy of the Atlanta Hawks.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from former Atlanta Hawks Ball Boy.

Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
